Italian restaurants, sub shops, calzone counters and Italian delis sit next to the pizzerias on this site because most of them bake pizza too, often from the same dough. Full-service Italian restaurants take reservations for dinner, add a tip line for table service (15-20% is customary) and usually run a cheaper lunch menu on weekdays. Sub and sandwich shops are counter-order and quick, with sizes by the inch or in half and whole lengths. Calzones and strombolis are priced like a medium pizza and are large enough to share. Italian delis and bakeries sell by weight and by the piece, and many close mid-afternoon.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 9 amβ6 pm. My husband and I were in town for a friend's wedding and needed a quick late lunch near our hotel. We ended up at Grand Traverse Pie Company having never been before, and honestly, we were blown away. Our cashier, Aaron, was fantastic. We weren't sure what to get, so we went with his recommendations and they did not disappoint. Iβm a huge turkey sandwich fan, and their turkey on sourdough completely hit the spot. My husband got the chicken bacon focaccia (Aaronβs pick) and it knocked it out of the park. We also tried the chicken noodle soup, and I am not exaggerating when I say it took me straight back to my childhood. Those thick, soft egg noodles are a 10/10. I would literally come back to Michigan just for this soup. We loved our lunch so much that we went right back to the counter for round two. Aaron came through again with his dessert favorites, even giving us pro-tips on how he likes to eat them (like warming them up with a little chocolate syrup or whipped cream). I got the lemon blueberry pie, which was the perfect spring dessertβ¦really bright and light, but still indulgent. But what really made our visit was what Aaron did next. While we were ordering lunch, my husband ha

Came here on the pi day ( March 14). Got a pecan cherry muffin ($3.49), a sandwich combo ($13.95), and a 9 inch cherry pie. Got 3 free ABC pies as their pie day special. Unfortunately, the sandwich took a lot longer to get due to many more people coming in for the free pies. Might avoid getting made-tp-oeder food in the future pie day until the lunch rush is over.

No coffee in the canister, took 15 minutes to replace. Coffee amenities were scattered and the sugar dispenser was nasty with stuck on sugar and finger prints. No available sugar packets. The restaurant was cold and drafty, seems like theyβre trying to save money by turning down the heat. Dine in slices of pie should be served on a plate with a clean fork provided, instead of a cheap plastic container. I mean, this is a pie bakery, make a little effort to show off your namesake! Also, a coffee mug would be nice too. It had been a while since Iβve been here, it has noticeably slipped.

Saddest Chicken Salad Sandwich we've ever had. Almost no chicken salad on it. It was mostly a cold "croissant" and a slice of lettuce. The chicken pot pie was acceptable ; decent flavor but lukewarm. Do not recommend. Update...went to eat the strawberry rhubarb pie, and the pie crust between the filling and the crumble was still raw. This location is a disgrace.

Lordy but this was truly an experience. This was the best highlight to my trip to Lansing. I wish I could have bought more pies to travel with. The place smells delicious when you enter, the staff are super friendly and accommodating. I don't like cherries, but the cherry pie is superb. Both sweet and tart, with real, whole cherries in every bite. Now can someone tell me if they ship out of state?
